TODAY: THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER: While walking on their way to Emmaus from Jerusalem, two disciples became preoccupied with the events of Good Friday.  They were discouraged by what happened to Jesus.  The first news about the empty tomb did not reach them as yet.  They were not aware that Jesus was with them while they were conversing about Him, and that he was slowly introducing them to God’s plan in the history of salvation.  After a while, the disciples were happy to have the traveler with them.  They did not know that it was Jesus who was walking with them.  The disciples invited him join them for supper.  Jesus revealed himself at the table with His well-known gesture --- in breaking of bread.  Their eyes were opened and they felt their hearts burning.  The disciples returned to Jerusalem to announce the good news: JESUS IS ALIVE!   Today’s Gospel is a model of how we find our way to faith.  Our everyday sequence is the experience of Good Friday.  If we remain in conversation with Jesus, He will remain with us, even though we might not recognize Him.  We must recognize Him in the needy and show our love for them.  The breaking of bread --- the Eucharist --- and all connected with it will take hold of us.  Only then will we realize that Jesus is alive, and we will feel a need to speak about Him to others.

IMPORTANT NEWS FROM FATHER CHRIS

Our Croatian Nuns were notified by their Mother General  that they are all being recalled to return to their Motherhouse in Zagreb, Croatia in the near future.  We are saddened by this news, since the Sisters have been with us for about fifty years and have kept our church, rectory and property beautiful with their hard labor of love.

Our Parish Council held a special meeting with me about this situation on Tuesday, April 1st, 2008, and it was determined that a letter should be written by the Council to the Mother General in Zagreb, expressing the feelings of our parishioners: that our beloved Sisters should remain with us in Lackawanna where they are truly needed.  The letter will be fax’d or mailed to Croatia this coming week.

In the meantime, we will devote the rosary that will be prayed every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. for our Sisters and for their continued association with our parish, and ask Blessed Virgin Mary to intercede.  All parishioners are invited to join us every Tuesday.  We will pray for a favorable response to our letter.

DANAS: 3. Prve vijesti o praznom grobu jos ih nisu ni dirnule.  No, dok oni razgovaraju o Isusu, on je vec s njima na putu i tumaci im Pisma te ih polako uvodi u shvacanje nauma Bozjega u povijesti spasenja. No, ako ostajemo zajedno i u razgovoru o Isusu, on ce biti s nama makar ga odmah i ne prepoznali.
