TODAY: 21st Sunday of Ordinary Time: The scene at Caesarea Philippi took place after the Lord’s announcement about the Bread of Life.  The people who were discouraged in their expectations hoping that the Messiah will be a political figure, started leaving Him.  That’s why our Lord turned toward His apostles with the question: “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”  In the name of the twelve Peter answered: “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God!”  With these words Peter acknowledges that Jesus is the Messiah whom God promised to send to the world, and who God’s chosen people were expecting.  The apostles were with Him for months and witnessed all of His miracles, and they realized that He is the Teacher and promised Messiah.  Mark, Luke and John, the Evangelists, certified to this in their own way.  When Peter professed his faith in Christ the Lord, it was the same as if he said that he believes Jesus, the only begotten Son of God.  Peter was right in saying what he said and Jesus               replied: “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah.  For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Heavenly Father.”  Peter understood who Jesus of Nazareth is because of the Heavenly Father.

DANAS: 21.

g o s p e l   g r a m    (Perfect Peace)

The Comet Swift-Tuttle has been observed by man as far back as 69 BC.  As the six mile wide Comet travels through our solar system on its nearly 130 year journey around the sun, it leaves behind a trail of cosmic debris.  Each year between August 9 and 13 the Earth passes through the comet's orbit.  As the comet's sand-sized cosmic junk enters the Earth's atmosphere at roughly 133,200 miles per hour, it burns up, setting off a celestial firework display known as the Perseids.  Like the comet's trail of debris, people sometimes enter our life and leave behind a trail of debris which sets off a display of emotional fireworks within us.  But just as the Earth calmly glides through the debris in its path, we can also have a calm journey when we keep our minds fixed on the goodness of the Lord and not on the junk in our path.  God's word says: «He will keep us in perfect peace when our mind is stayed on Him» (Isaiah 26:3 paraphrased).  Therefore, Bring into captivity every thought ... (2 Col.10:5) and «forget those things which are behind...» (Phi 3:13). «Whatsovever things are...lovely...(and)...good...think on these things» (Phi 4:8) «and the peace of God...shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus»  (Phi 4:7).

PARENTING PERSPECTVE: As you've no doubt discovered, teens can be parent deaf.  To break through, take a tip from  the media and try talking in sound bytes.  Decide ahead of time the core message, reduce it to a short sentence, look your teen in the eye, say it, and stop.  It works!
