TODAY: 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time: Shortly after Jesus proclaimed Peter to be “rock”, He called him “Satan” or “tempter”.  He called Peter “Satan” because Peter wanted to protect Jesus from His suffering for our salvation.  Jesus called Peter’s try as  Satan’s scandal because he was thinking not as God, but as a human being.  Jesus said to His disciples: “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me”.  We must be new creations who are filled with Christ and His spirit.  We must decisively reject the half handedness and the making of compromises with the world and Satan.  We must reject our self-love and self-interests and follow the One who ahead of us walked with a heavy Cross.  Whoever walks on steep and bloody roads must expect catastrophes in life and not much success; he must expect some humiliation and opposition.  For us Christians who want to be faithful to God, there is no other road but the road of our Lord Jesus Christ.

DANAS: 22.

MESSAGE FROM MEDJUGORJE AUGUST 25th:

«Dear children!  Also today I call you to personal conversion.

You be those who will convert and, with your life, will witness life,

witness love, forgive and bring the joy of the Risen One into this world, where

my Son died and where people do not feel a need to seek Him and to discover

Him in their lives.  You adore Him, and may your hope be hope to those hearts

who do not have Jesus.  Thank you for having esponded to my call.»

PORUKA, 25. KOLOVOZA 2008:

«Drago djeco!

THIS WEEKEND

TODAY: If you haven't done so yet, please take your box of envelopes home for our new fiscal year September 1, 2008 to August 31, 2009. We ask that you come to Mass every Sunday and use your envelopes starting next weekend.  Notify the rectory if you have a change of address or telephone number so that we can update our database.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1: National Holiday: Labor Day.  We are reminded of the great skill God has given to each of our«hands».   His Divine Son learned the skill of a carpenter to show the beauty of work.  May our work always reflect the beauty of God.  May the goodness of the Lord be upon us, and give success to the work of our hands.

TUESDAY,SEPTEMBER 2: The Eucharistic Adoration in our church this Tuesday is sponsored by the Eucharistic Adoration Society and Pro-Life Office of the Diocese of Buffalo.  This is a day of Prayer and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for an end to abortion and the culture of death.  Adoration from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with Rosary recitation at 6:00 p.m.  Please come during the day to spend at least one hour with the Eucharistic Jesus.

NEXT SUNDAY: Second collection will be for Peter's Pence.

MARRIAGE MOMENT: On hot, muggy summer nights you might feel that the romance of your courtship is history.  Summon up your energy and do something crazy, playful, and cooling.  Run through a sprinkler, take a moonlit walk, catch fireflies.  Be silly, be  creative, whether you are married one year or 70 years.  Romance never goes out of style!

OCTOBER 12, 2008; Bishop Kmiec invites couples who are celebrating  their Gold and Diamond Wedding Anniversaries (50th, 60th and 70th) in 2008 to a special Mass in St. Joseph’s Cathedral on Sunday, October 12th at 5:00 p.m.  During the Mass couples will renew their marriage vows.  A reception will follow at the Buffalo Convention Center.  Family members are most welcome to come.  We must notify the Bishop before September 8th.  Please call our rectory immediately if you plan to attend.
