TODAY, OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST THE KING: St. Mathew showed that the members of the Israelite nation have to be vigilant and open toward others if they want to be partakers of Christ's Kingdom.  The Jews thought that God decreed at the Last Judgement that those who didnot belong to the chosen people would be condemned.   They thought that at the end there will be two groups of people: the Jews and the Pagans (non-Jews).  Today's Gospel gives us a different division of the world at the Last Judgement.  Just to be a member of the Jewish nation would not mean much if the works of mercy were not lived and practiced toward all regardless of who they are.  Many offsprings of Abraham will be rejected if they close their hands and hearts to those who were the least, the needy and those who needed mercy. While the pagans who have not received the Revelation or the Light God gave to His people, if they were performing works of mercy, loved God and their neighbors will be saved.  Heaven is not open by pure and empty hands.  Heaven is earned by good works.  Each of us must become a neighbor to all in need.
