TODAY: 26th SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME : In today's Gospel we see two sons who react differently to their father's request.  Jesus with this parable wants to show his enemies why the Good News of the Gospel  is directed toward sinners.  One son at his father's request right away listens to his father and did the job- he responded positively. Perhaps he did it  to get rid of his father and his bothering; to be at peace. He had not much love and enthusiasm for his father.  The other son reacted differently.  At first he protested and responded negatively. But when he realized that he did not do the right thing, he repented and did the job.  Even Jesus' enemies figured out which of these two did the right thing.  Many pharisees who considered themselves to be righteous closed themselves to Jesus' Good News because they thought they were self-sufficient by doing the right thing.  They could not understand how God would ' with love and goodness' turn more toward sinners than toward them who had always been faithful.  In God's wisdom, not just deeds but attitude is what counts.  Jesus once said None of those who cry out, Lord, Lord! will enter the kingdom of God but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.” (Mt.7: 21)

(Mt 7,21)
