TODAY, 5th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME:
The miraculous catch of
fish belongs to the miracle Jesus performed at the beginning of His public
ministry. The faith of His first followers
was motivated by these extraordinary signs.
We might say this was a way of calling His disciples into His service
--- calling them to follow Him so that they may continue His apostolate. The most significant person is St. Peter in
this episode. Jesus said to him: “ Put out into deep water and lower your nets for
a catch!” (Lk 5, 4).
Jesus enters Peter’s boat. Even
though Peter admits that he is not worthy and sinful, Jesus awards his faith
with an abundant catch of fish. And furthermore,
Jesus promises him: “From now on you will be catching men.” The call to Jesus’ apostolate is
God’s choosing --- it is a work of His grace.
What is needed to make such a decision to follow Christ is to experience
Him and have an encounter with Him as did Jesus’ disciples at the episode of
the miraculous catch of fish.
DANAS, 5. NEDJELJA KROZ
GODINU:
]udesni ribolov pripada ~udesima koje je
Isus u~inio na po~etku svog
javnog djelovanja. Tim je
znamenjem motivirana vjera prvih u~enika. Sam ribolov
dramski oslikava ulogu poziva i
samo pozivanje Gospodinovih u~enika da ga slijede
i kasnije nastave njegov apostolat. U cijelom izlaganju
najistaktnutiji Petrov lik. Isus se obra}a
jedino Petru:”Izvezi na pu~inu i
bacite mre`e za lov!” (Lk 5, 4). Ulazi u Petrovu la|u. Iako se Petar priznaje nevrijednim i gre{nim,
Isus njegovu vjeru nagra|uje bogatim ribolovom. Jo{ mu vi{e obe}aje:
“Od sada }e{ loviti
ljude!” Poziv na
apostolat nije plod ~ovjekovih sposobnosti ili kreposna `ivota. To je
djelo Bo`jeg izabranja, djelo milosti. Da bi netko donio
odluku dap o|e za Isusom i
da ga slijedi,
potrebno je da Ga tako
sna`no do`ivi i susretne kao
Isusovi u~enici kod ~u|esnog ribolova.

A
FAMILY PERSPECTIVE:
We can learn how to handle stress from today’s Gospel. When pressured by the crowd, Jesus got into a
boat and “went out a short distance and
taught”. Juggling parenting,
scheduling, and work can be stressful.
Parents need space also. A “short distance” is a good parenting
tool.
INTERCESSION
FOR LIFE: We pray
to the Lord for young people who seek to fill emptiness with the passing
pleasures of this world: that God might fill their hearts with a love beyond
all imagining, and imbue their minds with a hunger for the truth.
