TODAY, SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER: Jesus prayed the night  before His death.  This is His longest prayer found in the Gospels. It is called Christ’s “High Priest’s Prayer”.  In it Christ summarizes this highest desire that His disciples be united among themselves; to be one, as Jesus and His Father are.  This is, at the same time, the highest goal why Christ accepted the sacrificial death on the Cross: “to gather into one all the dispersed children of God” (John 11, 52).  It is only a question about Christ’s Church to be one.  Christ wants the whole world to be one God’s family through the Church.  By her prayers, sacrifices and dialogue the Church creates a unity among all Christians.  By doing that, she becomes in Christ a sacrament, a sign and  a means of the closest union with God; a unity of all the human race.  The world will achieve a complete union in Christ when it is united with different social, technical and cultural achievements.  Is this Jesus’ burning desire also in our hearts truly, and at work?

DANAS, 7. No nije rije~ samo o jedinstvu Crkve Kristove.  Krist `eli da po Crkvi cijeli svijet dopre do jedinstva Bo`je obitelji.  Upravo time {to Crkva pospje{uje --- molitvom, `rtvom, dijalogom --- zajedni{tvo svih kr{}ana, ona sve vi{e postaje “u Kristu sacrament i znak i oru|e najtje{njega sjedinjenja s Bogom i jedinstva cijeloga ljudskoga rodaSada{nje prilike u svijetu po`uruju ovu (ekumensku) du`nost Crkve: naime, da svi ljudi --- danas tje{nje povezani razli~itim dru{tvenim, tehni~kim i kulturnim vezama --- postignu tako|er potpuno jedinstvo u Kristu” (II. vatikanski koncil, Konstitucija u Crkvi, br. 1).  Da li ta goru}a `elja Isusova srca gori u na{em srcu?  Istinito i djelotvorno?

GOSPEL GRAM

The cares of this world…choke… (Mark 4:19).  Weeds                are plants that choke the life out of other plants.  They                are a serious enemy to man because they grow  faster     than the crops he plants.  If left alone, weeds will soon

overshadow and rob man’s much needed sunlight causing them to wither and die.  Just as plants need sunlight to grow, we need the SONLIGHT OF Jesus Christ to grow spiritually.  In an attempt to cut off our SONlight and choke the spiritual life out of us, our adversary the devil seeks to overshadow us with weeds of worry and care.  But, if we “resist the devil,” (Ja.4:7a) and “draw nigh to God,” (Ja.4:8)…will flee,” (Ja.4:7b) thus enabling us to be “fruitful in every good work, and increase the knowledge of God,” (Col.1:10).  Therefore, “walk after the LORD…” (Deut.13:4) and “bear much fruit,” (John 15:8).
