TODAY, FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT: Today is the first Sunday of this
holy season of Lent which will last for six weeks. The good of this holy season of Lent is
beautifully expressed in today’s opening prayer: “to help us to understand the
meaning of Jesus’ death and resurrection, and teach us to reflect it in our
lives”. To know better and to understand
better what Jesus did for us and what He suffered for us, and in thanksgiving
we are to sympathize with Him and His suffering for us. that sympathy would
be empty if our sympathy wouldn’t be visible in our lives. Lent is a favorite time to re-examine our
life’s purpose. Are we going on the
right road? Is there anything to
change? Are we perhaps tired? Let Lent be the time of intensive prayer,
more zeal in meditating about God’s Word and being more active in helping those
in need. Then Lent will bring us the
best fruits for our spiritual progress.
DANAS, PRVA NEDJELJA KORIZMU: Prije tri dana, na ]istu srijedu
zapo~eli smo {est tjedana posve}enog korizmenog vremena. [to bi trebaobiti cilj ove korizme,
lijepo je re~eno u zbornoj molitvi dana{nje
sv. mise: da “uznapredujemo u razumijevanju Kristova otajstva te ga
dostojnim `ivotom provedemo u djelo”. [to bolje upoznati i shvatiti
{to je Isus za nas u~inio
i pretrpio, u zahvalnosti suosje}ati s njime
i njegovim patnjama za nas,
bila bi samo isprazna osje}ajnost,
ako se zahvalnost Isusu zbog njegova
djela ne bi pokazala u na{em
`ivotu. Korizma je povla{teno
vrijeme za preispitivanje na{ih `ivotnih stavova. Idemo li pravim putom? [to imamo ispraviti? Nismo li se pomalo zamorili? Neka nam vrijeme
korizme bude vrijeme intenzivnije molitve, revnijeg promi{ljanja i aktivnijeg
djelovania oko dobra i pomo}i
bli`njima. Onda }e donijeti najbolji plod i za na{
duhovni napredak.

LENTEN REGULATIONS
The
following
should also be noted:
RECONCILIATION: Catholics
are bound by an obligation faithfully to confess serious sins at least once a
year. (Canon 989).
OTHER FRIDAYS OF THE YEAR: Catholics should be reminded that
all other Fridays of the year remain as days of penance, in prayerful
remembrance of the Passion of Jesus Christ.
OBLIGATION: The obligation which we have as
members of the church to do penance is a serious one. Furthermore, the obligation to observe, as a
whole or “substantially”, the penitential days specified by the Church is a
serious one.
While
no one should hold himself or herself lightly excused, one should not become
unduly scrupulous. Failure to observe individual
days of penance is less serious than the failure to observe any penitential
days at all or a substantial number of such days.
