TODAY, 5TH SUNDAY OF LENT: The scribes and the Pharisees in today’s gospel brought a woman, who had been caught in adultery, to Jesus and made her stand in the middle of the temple area.  They wanted to trap Him.  “The Law commands us to stone such women, so what do you say?”  If Jesus approves the law He will be contradicting what He preaches about mercy.  If He says not to stone the woman, He will not be obeying the law.  Jesus’ action shows the higher meaning of the law.  The meaning of the law is not, first of all, to punish the sinner, but to prevent the sin.  Jesus achieves that by forgiving and by his mercy, and in doing so He is saving the sinner.  He asked the following question to those who thought they have the right to stone the woman:  “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”

DANAS 5.

ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD, MARCH 26

            THE ANGELUS:

The Angel spoke God’s message to Mary,

and she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

   Hail, Mary…

“I am the lowly servant of the Lord:

let it be done to me according to

   Your word.”

      Hail, Mary….

And the Word became flesh, and

   dwelt among us.   Hail, Mary….

Pray for us, holy Mother of God,

that we may be made worthy of

   the promises of Christ.

Lord, fill our hearts with Your grace:

once, through the message of an angel

You revealed to us the incarnation of

Your Son; now, through His suffering

and death, lead us to the glory of His

resurrection.  We ask this through

Christ our Lord,  AMEN.
